Dealing With Failure

Dealing With Failure When something doesn’t go right, try to not beat yourself up.  Use the experience to your advantage.  Dr. Henry Cloud encourages us with a worksheet to examine our failures and conduct  an “autopsy” of a failure experience.  Many times we have spent a lot of good energy and probably money, time, resources relationship investment and other assets on this “failure lesson”.  Scripture tells us in Romans 3:23 that , “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God”.  We all make mistakes but we are NOT mistakes. Here are some questions from Dr. Cloud’s worksheet that will help us learn something from our failure lesson. What you did wrong? What you did right? What you missed along the way. What choices did you make that you don’t want to make again What weaknesses contributed to those mistakes What support would have helped you What new skills you need to develop to make it different next time What teachers, mentors, counselors or consultants you might want What about this situation reveals a pattern you have seen before What blind spots you have about yourself or others that led you to this outcome. I hope this checklist provided by Dr. Cloud helps you approach life’s vicissitudes with a different level of learning.
